Current Kaikohe East Policy

 

Students and staff shall have a safe physical and emotional learning environment. Therefore, the principal shall not fail to:

1.     Take reasonable steps to protect students from unsafe or unhealthy conditions

2.     Provide a smoke free environment

3.     Ensure a risk analysis management process is carried out where and when appropriate

4.     Ensure that any employee who has, or is likely to have, unsupervised access to students during normal school hours is a registered teacher, or has a current Limited Authority to Teach, or has had a satisfactory Police vet within the past three years

5.     Consult with the community regarding the health programme being delivered to students

6.     Provide privacy of personal documentation held at school

Students and staff shall have a safe physical and emotional learning environment. Therefore, the principal shall not fail to:

1.     take all reasonable steps to protect students, staff and visitors to the school from unsafe or unhealthy conditions

2.     ensure there is zero tolerance to bullying

3.     ensure there are effective processes in place for dealing with bullying

4.     comply with the provisions of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992

5.     provide a smoke free environment

6.     ensure a risk analysis management system (RAMS) is carried out where and when appropriate

7.     seek approval for all overnight stays/camps attesting first to their compliance with (4) above

8.     consult with the community every two years regarding the health programme being delivered to students

9.     provide privacy of personal documentation held at the school

10.   advise the board chair of any emergency situations as soon as possible

 

Principal’s Report on Current Policy

1.     Currently reviewing Health and Safety procedures to ensure that they comply with the provisions of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

2.     The school is smoke free.

3.     A risk analysis management process is carried out whenever students leave the school site on organized trips.

4.     Separate reports provided to the board on Teacher Registration and Police Vetting.

5.     This is reported on with the Health and PE Curriculum report each December.

6.     Procedures are in place to ensure the privacy of personal documentation.

Recommendation(s)

1.     Recommend that we adopt additional suggestions (1-4 and 7 and 10 above right) from the updated version of the Policy Framework outlined by Elaine Hines.
