Welcome

This week we welcome to our school the following new students and whanau to our school: Triumph Hori-Broomfield, Kaiah-Rain Ruka, Hine-Ua-Mairangi and Jay Nga Puhi Mau-Paul.

 

2016 Kaikohe East School dates

Term 1     2nd Feb -15th April

Term 2     2nd May -8th July

Term 3     25th July - 23rd Sept

Term 4     10 Oct - 15th December

 

Kaikohe Christmas Parade

This community event is planned for Saturday 5th December. The theme for this year’s parade is “Candyland”. Thank you to Whaea Cilla who is organising our contribution to the parade.

 

Kelston Intermediate

This week we are pleased to host Mr Gordon (ex Principal Kaikohe Intermediate School) and approximately 20 Year 7 and 8 students from his new school in Auckland, Kelston Intermediate.  The group are staying in our school hall this week, departing on Friday.

 

Fluoride Dental Team

Today, a dental team visited all Kaikohe East School 5 year old children to share the importance of dental care and fluoride.  Children involved in this programme brought home information with last week’s newsletter.

 

Christmas Grotto

The Kaikohe Community Arts Council has prepared a Grotto at 81 Broadway for children to visit.  Many of our classes provided the Grotto with a Christmas tree they made.  This week we got a big thank you from the organisers for our combined efforts.

Classes will be visiting the Grotto to see the wonderful work of The Arts Council and to see Santa starting this week.

 

Year 6 Students

Year 6 students not currently enrolled anywhere else for 2016 will be bringing home a Kaikohe Intermediate School pre-enrolment pack.  Please return to us or Kaikohe Intermediate school office.

 

End of Year

The final school assembly will be held in our school hall on Friday 11th of December at 10am. At this Assembly we say goodbye to our Year 6’s, award the Mainfreight Duffy Award and celebrate other successes. All are welcome to attend! 

The last day of the year is Tuesday 15th December, school will finish for children at 1pm on this day, and buses will run as usual.

 

Lollipop Raffle

Thank you to Vicki and Malcolm Burns who have donated this very large lollipop which will be raffled and drawn at the Final School Assembly. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the office.

 

WeetBix Kids TRYathlonThe Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is coming to the Bay of Islands!! The event will be held on Sunday 10th April 2016 in Waitangi.

No matter what your child’s level of fitness, if they are aged between 7 – 15 years, they can get involved.  Contact the school about registering a school group & check out try.weetbix.co.nz for more information or 0800 WEETBIX (0800 933 8249).

 

T-Ball

T-Ball is on again at Lindvart Park, players are to meet their coaches at the Park at 3.30pm. Practices for T-Ball are Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes.

 

Sprayed fields

Last fortnight during the weekend our school fields were sprayed to kill the “prickle weed” we have growing.

 

End of Year Reports

Reports will be coming home with children next Wednesday in sealed envelopes. If whanau would like a face-to-face meeting with their child’s teacher before or after the report is sent home please do not hesitate to make contact with the appropriate teacher.

If your child only started school this term no written report will be provided.

Please accept our apologies in advance if you find any errors that have been overlooked in your child’s report and do not hesitate to come and let us know if there are any errors so we can fix them. While we make every effort to ensure they are correct at times we do get it wrong.

 

Touch

Touch this Thursday.  All teams are to meet coaches by 3.45pm at the latest.

Practices are Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes at school.

There are also Touch trials for U9 and U11 students this Thursday 26th November 5pm Lindvart Park, any questions phone Dina 021 2160 4049

 

Board Meeting

Our next meeting for the Board of Trustees is due to be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday 2 December

 

Kapahaka Trip to Kawakawa

Tomorrow a trip has been planned for the children who participated in and won $500 at the recent Waimate North Show Kapahaka event. The children will leave school by bus at 9.30am with Whaea Stevie and Whaea Kelli and will return by 3pm. All children involved will be bringing home a separate letter today including details for the day.

 

Kaikohe Teen Parent Unit

The new Teen Parent Unit will be up and running from Term 1 next year.  Our brand new premises will be purpose built and includes 3 teaching spaces as well as office/administration area.  We will be situated straight across the road from the Kowhai Corner Childcare Centre on Purdy Street (back of Kaikohe East School).  The new buildings will be ready in May and in the meantime we will work out of temporary premises. 

Kim Peita is the Manager of the unit and we are in the process of appointing teachers.  We are excited to be able to support young parents from Kaikohe and surrounding districts to continue their education.
