Welcome
This week we would like to welcome the following children and their whanau to our school: Ahurei Romana-Parangi, Connar Campbell, Elisha Karena and Arthur Tarawa.
April Holidays
The last day of Term 1 will be Thursday 13th April. School will start again on Monday 1st May. Whanau are reminded that the school is locked throughout the holidays to ensure our school is kept safe.
A Free Course for Whanau
The Solomon Group are offering a free course for whanau called Intergenerational Education. The course will not only help you meet your WINZ commitments but allow you to gain skills to succeed. For further information please phone 0800 747687 or call into the school office for a leaflet with full information.
Kutus
Please be vigilant in checking your children’s hair on a regular basis for kutus. We still provide kutu combs and solution thanks to Kids Can.
Term 2 Topic
Beginning in Term 2 all classes will be learning about Kaitiakitanga. This work may involve such things as caring for our environment, caring for our school property, respecting each other and a range of other related ideas.
Kaikohe Swimming Club – Prize-giving
This Saturday, 8th April, is the annual Kaikohe Swimming Club Prize-giving. It will be held in the Kaikohe East School Hall at 6pm.
SWIS – Whaea Lucy
A reminder that every Wednesday and Thursday we have our School Social Worker here at our school. Whaea Lucy is available to talk with tamariki and or their whanau who may need support.
Children’s Readers
Could whanau please check their homes and if they find any school readers please send them back to school. For every book returned your child will receive a “tanga” card.
Ukulele Lessons for Term 3
Lessons will continue into Term 3 with Matua Henry and Whaea Jane.
Public Health Nurse
Bev Johnston and Claire Forrest are the Public Health Nurses working with Kaikohe East School. One of us will visit the school weekly. This is generally on a Thursday. We are available to support with health related issues, these include: Skin infection assess and treatment, opportunistic throat swabs, referral to other health Professionals, hearing and vision follow up. Please feel free to contact us or leave a message with school if you would like us to see your child.

Gates
This week we are reminding children not to walk through the school carpark or down by the caretakers shed when entering or leaving school. Children should only use the gate up by Mangakahia Road or Purdy Street.
Netball
We would like to thank Whaea Lani and Whaea Lainie who volunteered to coach our school Netball teams this year! Practices will be held at school during lunchtime, children are asked to keep an ear out for times on the daybook! Netball for both teams will start on Saturday 6th May. Players will need to meet their coaches at Lindvart Park on this day at 8.30am with suitable shoes to play in and a water bottle.
Our School Pool
Our school pool will be closed at the end of this week. Friday 7th April will be our last day of swimming.
Trip to a Dairy Farm
Manawanui (Room 7) and Rangimarie (Room 9) have organised to visit Suzanne’s Farm at Ohaeawai this Friday 7th April. Classes will leave school at approximately 10am then be returning to school at 2pm.
Their learning focus will be on the Milk process: From the Farm Gate to the School Fridge.
There is no cost for the trip as it is and will be part of the class learning programmes. Any queries re the trip please come and see Whaea Michelle or Whaea Waiora. Please phone 0508 5245643 if the weather looks doubtful on Friday morning.
Weetbix TryathlonWell done and congratulations to the 22 children who attended the Tryathlon on Sunday. You were all amazing and did so well! Special thanks to our staff who supported these children, particularly Mrs Stillwell and Whaea Kelli for their efforts with the children’s preparation and organisation for this event.
