Welcome

This week we would like to welcome the following children their whanau to our school: Eli-Jah Stevens, Cilvana and Claudene Ratu.

 

Matariki Celebration – WIG day

This Friday 23rd June all classes will be involved in Matariki Celebrations. 

Each Syndicate will have planned activities that the children will rotate around classes completing different activities. 

A group of children will be helping to prepare a small hangi for every child in the school with Miss Mason in Room 12 and a small group of children will be helping put the hangi down with Matua JT, the hangi will be ready at 1pm.  We are also combining “Wig Day” with this and asking for children to bring a gold coin donation to school on this day, they will get a hangi and all coins collected will be given to the Child Cancer fundraising group.

 

Bikes stolenOver Friday night we had some bikes stolen like this, thieves used bolt cutters to remove padlocks and took our bikes.  The police were called and are following leads, any information to Whaea Chicky please, our kids need their bikes back.

 

Term 3-4 – looking ahead

Whaea Angela will continue teaching in Room 8 until the end of the year, Miss Snow will return to school next year.

There will be a new class for brand new 5 year olds open in Term 3 in Room 10.

Whaea Barbara will teach in this class with Whaea Emily and the children already attending the playgroup in Room 10. Whaea Emily and the playgroup 4 year olds will leave at 11.30am each day.

A newly appointed teacher will teach in Room 4.

 

Board of Trustees

The Kaikohe East School Board meets at the school at 1:30pm on Wednesday 5th July.  Go to the here for the agenda and associated reports.

 

School Speech CompetitionOur school speech competition was held last week, congratulations to all students who participated in another great event.

Front row winners of the Competitive section: Teale Wharerau (Highly commended) 3rd place – Eve King, 2nd place Ellek Edmonds and 1st place Indica Wharerau.  We look forward to our place getters representing us at the Rotary Speeches tonight at the RSA Kaikohe, speeches start at 6.45pm, all welcome!

 

Te Arahura – Community of Learning (COL)

Recently Whaea Chicky was appointed to a new position called Te Arahura Community of Learning Leader.  This means that she will still remain the Principal of Kaikohe East School but she will work from time to time in some of the schools who are in Te Arahura COL. The schools in Te Arahura COL are: Kaikohe East, West, Christian and Intermediate Schools  , Northland College, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Kaikohe, Okaihau College, Horeke School, Waima School, Umawera School, Mangamuka School and local Early Childhood Centres.  We hold meetings twice per term and discuss the achievement challenges we have set around improving Writing, maths and NCEA levels in our schools.

Whanau Hui

Tuesday 27th June

•           School will close at 1pm with minimum supervision until 3pm

•           Buses will come as usual

•           All children still at school after 1pm will be supervised in the hall

•           Make sure we know what is happening to your child at 1pm

•           Reports will be discussed and distributed during meetings with teachers

•           Bring your child to the meeting

•           Meeting times will come home on Monday 26th June.
