New Enrolments

Welcome to our new tamariki and their whānau.

New Junior Class for Term 3

We have selected a few children we think would be best suited to be in this class however if whānau wish to request their child be in this class please get in touch with us.

In addition to this the children who are currently in Room 7 will be moving into either Room 8,9 or 10. All whanau of children moving will be contacted by teachers. The new classes will start in the last week of term.

Role Models

Netball

This week all players need to meet their coach at Lindvart Park by 8.30am, be sure to wear sensible shoes, bring a jacket, bag and a water bottle. Teams will play unless there is a weather warning in place.

Congratulations to our McDonald’s players of the day from last Saturday: Amethyst Woods-Morunga, Tevana Na’a and Portia Dalton.

Kids Can Fun Walk/Run

Kaikohe East School Year 6 tamariki have been invited to Kaikohe Intermediate school on the 21st of June to participate in a fun run or walk to help fundraise for Kids Can who kindly supply our school with kai and footwear for our tamariki. 

Your child will be provided with a sausage sizzle and ice block to go towards the event on the day.

Rotary Speech Competition

The school speech competition will be held in our school hall tomorrow, Thursday 13th June. All classes will be participating but only selected children will present their speeches in the hall. There will be the opportunity for Year 5 -6 children to compete in either the competitive or non-competitive section.

Two children from the competitive section will represent us at the Kaikohe Rotary Competition that is being held at the Kaikohe RSA on the evening of Wednesday 19th June.

The programme for tomorrow is as follows:

9.45- 11.00

Non Competitive Speeches begin

2 (and sometimes more) non competitors from each class recite their speech

At the conclusion of all speeches certificates presented to all participants

11.30-12.30 - Senior and Middle school back into hall for competitive speeches

Each class will have 2 competitors deliver their speech, judges will deliberate and present certificates and announce the two children selected to go on to the Rotary competition.

Whānau Hui Day - School closing early

On Monday 1st July school will be closing at 12.30pm. Teachers will be available from then onwards to meet with whanau to discuss their child/children’s progress and achievement so far this term. Your child has brought home the initial appointment booking form, thanks to those who have been returned. If you haven’t, another one is enclosed with this week’s newsletter.

Ngā Manu Kōrero Pride

Special thanks to our Senior Syndicate and Manawanui (Room 5) who participated in the powhiri for the Ngā Manu Kōrero competitions held at Northland College last week. There was certainly a great sense of pride as the Haka Pōwhiri occurred. Special congratulations to two ex Kaikohe East School pupils Nikania Leef (Kamo High School) and Puawai Woodman (Northland College) who both executed amazing speeches!

Junior Trip

The Junior Syndicate - Ngā Kākano, 3,4,5,6 are currently in the process of planning a day trip to Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World in Auckland in week 9 of this term, June the 27th. Please make sure to return these slips to their classroom teacher. If you have any questions or require another permission slip, please contact the school office and we will let your child’s teacher know.

Junior Trip Parent Helpers

We have had to reduce considerably the number of parent helpers for this trip. Parent helpers please expect a letter home today for Kelly Tarlton’s Junior Trip. There is a meeting planned for all parent helpers on Tuesday the 18th at 3.30pm, we require all parents to

attend as it will give parent helpers opportunity to meet all the teachers, other parents

that are attending, have any queries answered and you will be asked to sign an agreement form.

Transition Days

Our Year 6 children visited Kaikohe Intermediate School today. Their next visit is planned for Term 3 on Wednesday 21st August.

Children will be expected to wear their uniform on both their days and will be travelling by bus. leaving at about 9am and returning at 12.30pm.

Term 3 – Dance with Hush

We are planning for two dance groups to work with BoDeene Stephens from Hush Dance Studio at the beginning of Term 3. We are looking forward to the two groups working hard and performing at the annual Cultural Festival to be held towards the end of Term 3 at the Memorial Hall.

Hockey

We have hockey again this Saturday. Please be at the turf at the below times for your child’s team with a mouthguard and appropriate footwear.

Whaea Michelle – Mini Sticks 9.45am and Whaea Claire Kiwi Sticks 10.45am

Matariki Celebrations

Room 15, Room 7 and Room 9 are planning to have an overnight stay at school on Wednesday 26th June. All children involved will be bringing home a pānui today, please be sure to complete the pānui and return it to school as soon as possible.
