Nga mihi nui ki te whanau o Ruma 15

We are excited for another school year here at Kaikohe East School where students are:

Proud of who they are and where they come from

Prepared for and ready to accept challenges

Learners now and in the future

Where we strive to uphold our school values to:

Be Considerate

Be Courteous

Be Cooperative

and to use our Commonsense

We look forward to getting to know your whanau better and welcome you to come in anytime!

Whats happening this term?

This year Room 15 has become a level 3 bilingual class which is up to 30% Te Reo Maori per day. The children would still do everything mainly in English but there would be more effort to include Te Reo Maori into things like instructions/directions and activities.

This term our Kaupapa is Whanaungatanga. We will focus on getting to know our tamariki and their whanau as well as finding out what dreams and aspirations you and your children have. We are creating a Whanau Photo and Pepeha Wall in our class. We would love if you could share your pepeha with your tamariki and photo(s) of your whanau to add to our wall. We will copy and send back home promptly.  If you would like to bring your whanau along for a photo instead please feel free..

Whanau hui will take place during the week March 16th-20th.. During these meetings we will discuss the levels your tamariki are at and set some goals for the year.

Your tamariki will be organising a Marae noho for 1 or 2 nights during the week March 16th-20th to further build our relationships. You are more than welcome to come along.  If you are interested in helping with the noho or with sports teams or Breakfast club please let us know. We always value whanau input!

Homework e.g. spelling, reading and times tables will be given on Monday and expected back by Friday.

Swimming. Please send your child with togs, towel and a plastic bag for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

BIkes. This term we will have bike riding sessions on Tuesdays and Thursday.

Our Timetable

Block 1: Literacy - Reading and Writing

The teachers will see your child in small groups for literacy while the other tamariki move freely around hands on activities like woodwork, claywork, art, building, craft, photography and ICT.  If you have skills in any of the above or other things like sewing, weaving, Kapa Haka, guitar, gardening, art or cooking we would value your expertise in our class. Please come and see me or get in touch.

Block 2:   Numeracy - Maths- 11:30-1:00pm

The teachers will see your child in small groups for numeracy while others carry on with the hands on activities and document their days learning in their journal.

Block 3:    2:-3pm

During this block tamariki will reflect on their learning and set goals and plan for the next day.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact any of us here at Kaikohe East School.
