Deepest Sympathy

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tito whānau. Gloria Tito, a wonderful Nanny to three tamariki in Te Korowai o te Aroha, passed away on the weekend. He kokonga whare e kitea, he kokonga ngākau e kore e kitea. 

Congratulations

At Friday’s School Assembly we acknowledged the following “Caught being Good” tamariki: Tiare Johnson, Tipene Tau, Hukarere Tomuri-Grace, Trevan Wilson, Puawai Woodman.

And the following “100% attenders” Hukatere Tomuri-Grace, Maia Vaka, David James Pirini.

Our Class role Models were: Natalya Tukaki, Rosemary Horua, Kanteasha Singh, Tyla-Maree Davis-Watling, Ina Stewart, Sabastion Moka, Tiare Johnson, Te Atuarangi Tahere, Shane Kauwhata, Ataahua Puaha-Griffiths, Shanti Johnstone, Exodus Edmonds, Nickania Leef.

 

New Tumuaki at Kaikohe Intermediate School

Our congratulations to the newly appointed Tumuaki/Principal at Kaikohe Intermediate School, Joey Rogers who has been a Senior leader and teacher at the school for the past few years. We wish her well in her new position that commences in 2013. For the rest of this year Whaea Desirei Davis will be the Acting Tumuaki at the Intermediate.

 

Bay of Islands Gymnastic Club

On Thursday’s from 3.30pm – 4.30pm at the Kaikohe Intermediate School. Recreation Classes: 5-10+ year’s, fee for this term is only a gold coin per child per session.

Marcus Akuhata Brown

Our Year 6 tamariki have the opportunity on Thursday the 8th November to walk up to the Memorial Hall to listen to Marcus Akuhata Brown who has been carefully selected to talk with our tamariki about how important moving from Year 6 to Year 7 is. Marcus has visited Kaikohe before and is a very inspirational speaker. If any whānau would like to join our Year 6 group please feel free to come to our school at about 9am, as we will be leaving at about this time to help put out seating. Marcus starts at about 9.45am.

 

Transition Day for Year 6’s

There is a planned transition day to be held at Kaikohe Intermediate on Thursday 22nd November. All Year 6’s will attend this day unless we hear from whānau. Whānau are more than welcome to attend this day with their tamariki.

 

Room 1, 5 and 6 Trips

Currently Room 1’s trip to the Lion Park in Whangarei on 7th November (next week) and Room 5 and 6’s trip to Kelly Tarlton’s on 27th and 28th November have been approved. Please see these teachers re any queries you may have and make sure you read and return to school as needed any information sent home. Room 1 will be bringing home a detailed letter today.

 

$5 Parent book offer

Your child will bring home today an order form from the Duffy Books in Homes programme. All books are $5 each. All orders and money back to the school office by Friday 9th November. Thank-you.

Learn gardening skills in 2013 – here!

In 2013 Northtec’s Sustainable Rural Development programme will be run here, at our school (subject to numbers), using the schools community garden facility. In Terms 1 & 2 it will be the level 2 course, followed on by the Level 3 programme in Terms 3 & 4.

Details: Sustainable Rural Development (Level 2)

Start date: 19th February 2013

Finish Date: 28th June 2013

Course contact days: Tuesday and Wednesday

Time: 9.00 to 2.30pm

Fees:  Free course Qualifies for student/living allowance through studylink.

Entry criteria:  open entry, 17 years minimum age, preferably no level 2 qualifications or higher.

Course Content:  raised bed gardening, growing vegetables to feed your whānau, seed sowing/

planting, soil preparation, cooking of vegetables, small concreting tasks. Students will also plan and carry out a small garden project at home or at school. If you are interested please leave your name and contact details at the school office so that interviews can be arranged for enrolment.
