Welcome New Staff

A special welcome to our new Teacher Aide Matua Alb Baker who has started working in some classrooms supporting students.

We also welcome back Whaea Becky who is working mainly in Rooms 1 and 2 while Whaea Dot is on leave.

 

Condolences

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Phil Macomber, Assistant Principal at Northland College whose partner Marie passed away this week.

 

Whānau Hui

Special thanks to all the whānau who took to the time to come to meetings with teachers yesterday. If for any reason you were unable to attend and you want to meet with a teacher/s please come and see them to make a time.  Well done to Room 15 who had the most whanau attend – 20 out of 22 represented. .  You will be receiving a special treat soon.

School Gala Day

Our School Gala Day is planned for Saturday 12th March!

Thank you to the whānau who have offered help. We still need helpers, please ring us or send us a note to let us know how you can help. 

We have lots of activities planned for the Gala, one of them being 30 minute swimming pool sessions so please remind your tamariki to bring togs and a towel if they wish to take advantage of this Gala activity.

 

New Gala Ticket System

There will be NO REFUNDS on any ticket, bands, hāngi, raffles or chit card sales.

We are using a new ticketing system this year, offering you a few different options.

 

$20 Band – day pass to “Bumper Balls”, “Caro’s Crazy Critters”, “Bouncy Castles”, “Bouncy Slide” and “Hot Rods” (otherwise $5 each per turn).

 

$10 Band – day pass to “Caro’s Crazy Critters”, “Bouncy Castles” and “Bouncy Slides” (otherwise $5 each per turn).

 

We are allowing whanau the option to “pay the bands off” in the weeks leading up to the gala.  Please see Kohi in the office.

 

These areas will be clearly marked on the day using a colour coded system ($20 green and $10 blue).

 

Alternatively, on the day we will be selling “Chit cards” at $2, $5 and $10 values that can be used at all gala stalls other than the Hangi and Raffle table which will be CASH ONLY.

Hāngi tickets are for sale now too from the Office, $8 each

Hāngi Wood

We need dry wood for our hangi, if any whanau are able to provide us with wood can they please contact us at the office.

 

Class Hampers

Please send something non-perishable along for your child/children’s class hamper box.

Cakeboxes

Please note that Cake boxes will be sent home next Wednesday 9th March and are to be returned by 12 noon Friday 11th March or taken to the cake stall on the Saturday morning.

Please contact us if you are able to make more cakes and need extra boxes

 

Swimming Sports

Interschool Swimming Sports:

This is for years 4-8 and will be held Fri 11th March at the Kaikohe Intermediate School pool.

Whaea Kelli is organising our representatives at this event. Children involved will

bring home a separate letter today with the newsletter.

 

Survival Swimming Lessons

Kaikohe Swimming Club is excited to offer children 10 years and over free half hour survival swimming lessons every Monday and Wednesday from 4.30pm at the Northland College pool.  You will learn swimming techniques and skills and are required to complete a registration form.

 

Marae Stay

Due to a clash in dates we have had to alter our Marae Stay trips to Kohewhata on Mangakahia Road.

The Senior Syndicate (Rooms 8, 14,15,16) will be staying overnight on Wednesday 16th March, the Middle Syndicate classes (Rooms 4,5,6,9)overnight on Thursday 17th March and the Junior Syndicate classes (Rooms 1,2,3,7) just for the day on Friday 18th March.

More details about this later but it is expected that all children will participate.

Ki O Rahi

We have a Ki O Rahi competition coming up for 2 x year 4-6 team, on Thursday 3rd March at Lindvart Park.  Students remaining in Room 15 will also attend on the day to support our school teams.

 

Year 6 Transition Days

The first planned Year 6 Transition day will be held on Tuesday 8th March at Kaikohe Intermediate School.  All Year 6 students will be attending.

 

School Sores - Impetigo

We are aware that there are a few children at school who have school sores, little reddish lumps that may ooze? Please take your child to the doctor (free for children under 12years) if you suspect they may have them.  Sores should be covered and children will not be allowed to swim with sores.  If we notice anything at school our Public Health Nurse Bev may be in touch.

 

Swim Safe

We are lucky to have Rona from Swim Safe come and take each class for 4 lessons this term teaching water safety and skills. Please ensure your child has their togs and towel on the following dates:

Rooms 16, 15, 14, 9, 8, 4 : Friday 4th and Monday 7th March.
