Free Vision Testing and Free GlassesFrom Monday 7 September to Thursday 10 September there will be an Optometrist set up in the Northland College hall to provide full eye tests for Kaikohe children who need them.

If the tests show that glasses are required these will be manufactured to order and delivered to the child’s school about three weeks later.

Today your child will be bringing home a consent form for this.

Note that you only need to fill in the top part of the form.

We need the form completed and returned to school as soon as possible. All returned forms will go into a special free lunch draw.

Be sure to return your form to the school office.

Star Jam DayThis Thursday 13 August is Star Jam Day. We will be participating in a whole school Jump Jam (aerobics) session where we are filmed and entered into a draw to win tonnes of great prizes. The purpose of the day is to raise funds for the StarJam Charitable Trust and Jump Jam aerobic programme, designed to support young people with disabilities, while promoting health and wellness with our school communities.

All we ask is for a $2 donation and in return your tamariki will receive a StarJam Wrist Band.

We also would love to see something BLUE worn on the day as this is the StarJam colour. Thanks for your support!

Cultural FestivalWe now have three groups preparing for the annual Cultural Festival to be held at Northland College on Tuesday 15th September (Dress Rehearsal) and Thursday 17th September (Public performance).

Northland College Farm VisitOn Friday Whaea Tia, Whaea Becs and Mrs Maihi took their club to the College dairy farm.

We saw a cow. It weighed too much from milk that it couldn’t stand up so Loretta and the boys put a brace on it to hold it up, they left it overnight. The next day they let it off. The happy news was that it could walk but the bad news was they had to wait till the next day to milk it. The cow was very sick.

We went up a ramp and saw some calves, we got to pat them. Some were born that morning.

We wanted to see the poop, it was in a big pond. Guess what? I was grossed out because ducks were drinking out of there and they lived in there too. ‘Gross’! I will never want to be those ducks.

We saw where the cows are milked.  You don’t need to milk them by hand because there’s like 100 cows. There are two rows to milk the cows, with cups to milk them quickly. We had a big walk back to school.
