Message from Northland Public Health Unit

With 28 cases of measles in Canterbury, and two new cases in Auckland, now is the perfect time to make sure your child is up to date with their immunisations against measles. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are needed for maximum protection. If you are not sure if your child is fully immunised, check in your Well Child book, or talk to the Practice Nurse at your usual General Practice.

If your child is unimmunised, or has received only one dose of MMR, they are at higher risk of contracting measles.

Unimmunised children who are even only exposed to measles could face up to two weeks off school while they wait to see if measles develops, causing enormous disruption in families. Those who actually contract measles fare worse, as measles is a very unpleasant illness.

Make sure your child has had two MMRs. We suspect cases in Northland soon, so please don’t delay.

You can find more information on our website – www.northlanddhb.org.nz

Whānau Voice

Thanks to the whānau and our children who were able to meet with Jenna Crowley last week to discuss our school.  Your input is greatly appreciated. This week Jenna is talking with staff, her findings will be shared early next term.

Pedestrian Crossing on Broadway

Every morning from 8.15-8.30am and 3-3.15pm Mrs Maihi is on road duty at the pedestrian crossing closest to Paper Plus and the Doctors.  Please be sure your child gets to the crossing so that they can cross during these times.

Kī-o-Rahi

Room 15 went to play Kī-o-rahi on Friday against year 7/8. The competition was tough and our kids are brave. They had lots of fun and enjoyed scoring tries. Our outstanding players Shelby, Maiyah and Te Mana Haa for awesome defence skills defendinding the tipu.

Our fantastic try scorers Nikau, Samuel, Wakaroa and Herewini. Win or lose they’re all winners.

Nukes Ukes

On Thursday the 4th of April the middle and senior school will be attending a ukulele music show being held by touring ukulele group ‘Nukes Ukes’. The show will be held at Kaikohe West School from 1-2pm. There will also be a small group attending a music workshop from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm, and then they will join with groups from other schools to perform in the show.  All children will be going on a bus to and from the show.
