Our condolences

Recently we have been sad to hear of the passing of two lovely ladies that have been a part of our school over the years. Our sincere condolences to the whānau of Adelaide Harris and Demitrius Pairama.

Welcome New Staff

A special welcome to our new staff member Matua Mark teaching in Poutama following the resignation of Whaea Kelli.

A fond farewell to Whaea Waiora who will be going on maternity leave. We welcome Whaea Pam who will be teaching in Room 6 in Term 3 & 4.

Also starting Term 3, to help with our increased number of 5 year olds beginning, we welcome back Whaea Barbara Phillips who will initially be working with a small group of 5 year olds in the meeting room (the little room next to Room 6).

Early closing Friday 24th August

On Friday 24th of August school will be closing at 12pm so that all staff can attend a professional development afternoon at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe with all the other staff from the schools within our community of Learning, Te Arahura. Buses will be running early and we will be expecting all children to either be collected by 12pm on this day or walk home.

School Lunches

School lunches will resume tomorrow, Thursday. We will be selling sausage sizzle $2 each and juicies $1, on Friday we will be selling pies, $2 and juicies. Orders are taken in the school office after 8am and are delivered to classrooms by 1pm.

ERO Review

Last term our school was reviewed by the Education Review Office. We are pleased to say that the reviewers were very complimentary about our school. They have sent us a draft report, the final report will be available by the end of the term for public viewing. We will share this document once it is available. A big thank you to our staff, whānau, children and Board of Trustees who contributed to the success of this review.

Life Education Caravan

For the next week or so we are pleased to welcome Whaea Terri to our school. Whaea Terri is covering “Food and Nutrition” with the Junior Syndicate and “Friendships, Communities, Identities and Resilience” with the Middle and Syndicate’s.

Term 3 Events

Tuesday 14th August we will be having our Kaikohe East School Cross Country Day at Lindvart Park. Children will be running in their age groups starting with 9-11 year olds at 9.30am, 5- 6 year olds at 11.40am, and 7-8 year olds at 2.10pm. This year we will have a fun walk option for those who are less interested in running. There will be a sausage sizzle and ice block provided for the runners after their run. We will send out more details the week before. Everyone is welcome to come on down and support our runners.

Cultural Festival 2018

Wednesday 19th September – dress rehearsal at the Kaikohe Memorial Hall, Friday 21st September Performance Day – entry by koha. We are pleased to have three Kapa Haka participating from each Syndicate and a dance group.

Breakfast Club

A reminder that Whaea Ani or Whaea Lois are in the school hall every morning from about 8am with a yummy breakfast for any children that wish to have some. Breakfast usually ends at about 8.45am.

Our Matariki Celebration

Thanks so much to the whānau who took the time to come along to join us last term as we celebrated Matariki. We had some great examples of Art and Craft displayed in the hall, some of which have been stored away ready for the Waimate North Show later this year, a nice hot hāngi lunch and some very busy activities happening on the day!

Rheumatic Fever

“Sore Throats Can Damage Hearts”

Rheumatic Fever is a serious heart disease that is caused by a bacterial bug called Streptococcal A.

A simple throat swab can be taken from students with sore throats and tested for the Strep A bug.

If the bug is present, your child will be treated with a free 10 day course of antibiotics. It is important to complete this medication even if the symptoms improve.

The Rheumatic Fever Team will visits the school three times a week to swab sore throats.
