Newsletter 202014 - 17 June 2020

Welcome

A very special and warm welcome to the following new tamariki and their whānau who started this week!

Lokey Leaf, Teaaoterangi Peri-Peka and Azariah Poa.

Maths LearningOur school is continuing to do more learning about teaching maths through problem solving.  As we progress our learning we are noticing how our children are able to use lots of different strategies to solve everyday problems.  On Monday we had two Maths facilitators in our school helping in classrooms and our staff to become better at problem solving.

Winter Sport Term 3

Netball and hockey will begin the first Saturday (25th July) of term 3. In order to get our numbers right for teams, permission slips need to be returned by tomorrow or whānau can contact the school office.

Future Ferns Saturday Netball will end on Saturday 26th September.

Basketball will also start term 3 and will be played on Mondays.

We will be needing whānau support to coach and manage teams for Saturday netball and hockey. We would need the same support for basketball coaching and managing teams on a Monday afternoon please.

Please help give our kids sporting experience by coaching and managing a team.

Contact our school office and leave a message for Whaea Claire or Whaea Lydia if you can support in any way.

Junior Basketball

Matua Taal Smith would like everyone to know that he is thinking that a third term module on Monday afternoon/evenings could be a good way to re-start. He is thinking he will be organising U9, U11 and U13 grades.

Our teacher in charge of Junior Basketball is Whaea Claire in Room 15, please be sure she is aware of your child if they wish to play.  They will need to be given a letter for whānau to read, sign and return to school.  Because Monday nights are our meeting nights we would appreciate any whānau help for this please.  Let Whaea Claire know or call the school office if you can help out with teams.

School Sports Team Fees

Please remember that the school will pay for any fees associated with playing Netball, Hockey, Basketball for the school and both Soccer and Rugby if they play for Kaikohe Club teams.

Transition to Year 7

On Friday 26th June at 9am we are looking forward to a visit from Whaea Freda Mokaraka the Principal from Kaikohe Intermediate School coming to talk to our Year 5 and 6 tamariki about moving on to Year 7.

Inside the Classroom

Room 14

As part of our learning about geometry R14 used Google Earth to look at shapes in aerial views.  We created artworks inspired by what we saw.

We also wrote like mathematicians to describe an aerial view of a part of the school.

The court is divided into 2 symmetrical halves. The court is made out of 3 rectangle shapes. There is a semi circle in the middle of the court.

The car park is like a flipped upside down.
