Welcome!

A special welcome to our new tamariki and their whānau. John Slade-Carr, Soul-Jah and Legion-Dre Tomars, L.J Marino-Panui and Kymani Wira-Jones.

Nukes Ukes

Tomorrow, Thursday the 4th of April the middle and senior school will be attending a ukulele music show being held by touring ukulele group ‘Nukes Ukes’. The show will be held at Kaikohe West School from 1-2pm. There will also be a small group attending a music workshop from 11.30am to 12.30 pm, and then they will join with groups from other schools to perform in the show. All children will be going on a bus to and from the show.


School Pool closing

Due to the weather and declining numbers of swimmers the school pool will be closing this Friday.

Whānau Survey WinnerA special congratulations to Tapua and Te Kahuwhero Rountree-Hepi the winners of the Whānau Survey Hamper.

Netball

Whaea Tyme and Whaea Claire held the year 3-6 netball trials today, well done to all of our participants. We will be sending home information next week with teams and registration details. Thank you to those whānau who have volunteered to help, it is very much appreciated.

Hockey

We are currently in the process of organising teams. We have had a HUGE amount of interest for hockey, however not many people able to help with coaching. We have 3 of our teachers from school who will be running teams, but we would really appreciate more help. We will send out more details next week regarding teams and registrations.


Maternity Leave

Whānau of children in Tūmanako and Poutama are advised that Whaea Stevie and Whaea Lydia will be taking maternity leave

Whaea Stevie’s leave will be from 13th of May to 5th of July 2019

Whaea Lydia’s leave will be from 17th of May 2019 to 27th of September 2019.


Try-athalon CompetitorsWe are proud to have the following children representing our school this Sunday at the Weetbix Try-athalon being held in Waitangi. All Athletes need to be at Waitangi by 8am at the latest please. Whānau are reminded to bring all the gear needed for the event and lots of kai and drink.

Special thanks to our staff who have supported our Athletes and prepared them again for this event.

Here are our Athletes who have given up lunchtimes to train and are ready to participate on Sunday, please come along a cheer for our representatives.

Transition Days

Our Year 6 children will be visiting Kaikohe Intermediate School for Transition in Term 2 on Wednesday June 12th and in Term 3 –on Wednesday 21st August.

Children will be expected to wear their uniform on both their days and will be travelling by bus leaving at about 9am and returning at 12.30pm.


Bus Bay Reminder

Whānau are reminded that stopping in the bus bay is not permitted. Bus drivers get annoyed when pulling in and cars are parked in our bus bay.

Cars should not use the bus bay at all from 8.15-9.15am and 2.30-3.30pm


Kaikohe East School Board

The Kaikohe East School Board will meet at the school at 1pm on Friday 5 April. Go here for the agenda and associated reports.


Duffy Role Model VisitToday we were excited to hear about the mahi Whaea Stella is doing to sustain our native bush and forests. Whaea Stella explained to the children how important reading is to the mahi that she does, we are looking forward to having Whaea Stella back in the near future to help us with our Term 2 topic Kaitiakitanga.


Pedestrian Crossing on Broadway

Every morning from 8.15-8.30am and 3-3.15pm Mrs Maihi is on road duty at the pedestrian crossing closest to Paper Plus and the Doctors. Please be sure your child gets to the crossing so that they can cross during these times.
