NZEI Strike Action Day

Teachers and principals realise the inconvenience of strike action on some families. Members do not take the decision lightly. Primary teachers have not taken industrial action in New Zealand since 1994 and the fact that we are taking such a step now shows the grave concerns we have for the future of quality public education. The government needs to take courageous steps now!

On Wednesday 15th of August all Primary School Teachers who are in the NZEI union will be striking therefore our school will be closed.

We need your support to help improve conditions for all our tamariki.

Lollies/Drink sachets at school

A reminder to whānau not to allow tamariki to bring lollies or drink sachets to school. We seem to have a number of tamariki lately calling into the dairy in the mornings to buy lollies.

Early closing Friday 24th August

On Friday 24th of August school will be closing at 12pm so that all staff can attend a professional development afternoon at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe with all the other staff from the schools within our community of Learning, Te Arahura. Buses will be running early and we will be expecting all children to either be collected by 12pm on this day or walk home.

Science Roadshow

Room 15, 16 and Tūmanako will be going to Northland College this Friday 10th August to the Science Roadshow. 

Hockey

Last weekend’s Senior team player of the day:

Portia Dalton and Anahera Peri for great defence skills

and our Junior team player of the day:

Arihia Phillips for awesome defensive play.

Hockey is on again this Saturday.

Kutus

A reminder to whānau that we have Kutu lotion and combs available at school to be collected by an adult. Please be sure to check your child’s hair regularly and use the lotion or combs we are able to provide.

School Lunches

Tomorrow we have sausage sizzle $2 each and juicies $1, on Friday’s we sell pies $2 and juicies. Orders are taken in the school office after 8am.

Cross Country 2018

On Tuesday 14th August we will be having our Kaikohe East School Cross Country Day at Lindvart Park.

Children will be running in their age groups.

This year we will have a fun walk option for those who are less interested in running. There will be a sausage sizzle for all children when they finish their run back at school and an ice block provided for the runners/walkers immediately after their run/walk.

The timetable for the day will be:

9.30am 9-11 year olds (3 laps)

Interval at school

11.35am 5-6 year olds (1 lap)

12.30pm Walkers (1 lap)

Lunch at school

2.10pm 7-8 year olds (2 laps)

Everyone is welcome to come on down and support our runners.

Cultural Festival 2018

On Wednesday 19th September – dress rehearsal at the Kaikohe Memorial Hall, Friday 21st September Performance Day – entry by koha. We are pleased to have three Kapa Haka participating from each Syndicate and a dance group.

Guitarist needed

We are looking for a guitarist available to play for our Senior Kapa Haka every Monday and Friday afternoon from 2.05pm until about 2.45pm please. We will offer you a koha to cover costs at the end of the Festival in September. Come and see Whaea Stevie if you are available.
