Welcome

A special welcome to the following new children and their whānau to our school:

Eruwera, Wiremu and Mikaere Southorn-Bradley.

Te Arahura Kāhui Ako Huihuinga

On Friday 20th September all local schools who are in the Te Arahura Kāhui Ako will be at Northland College for a huihuinga about the new achievement challenges that are being proposed. Kaikohe East will therefore be closing at 12.15pm on this day, buses will be collecting children from about this time. Whānau please let us know by completing the form attached to today’s newsletter so we know what is happening to your child at this time. If you would prefer a phone call that is fine or let your child’s teacher know.

New sign Blessing

Everyone is welcome to come along to the blessing of our school sign this Friday 16th August from 10.30am. We will all gather down by the sign at approximately 10.30, have karakia/hīmene followed by the blessing by Matua Jim. All children will then go back to their classroom to have a sausage sizzle and drink. All whānau can then join the staff in the school staffroom for a cuppa tea and kai.

Cultural Festival

The annual Cultural Festival has been planned to happen this term. There will be a few Kaikohe East School groups preparing to perform at this annual event which will be held at Kaikohe Memorial Hall at 9.30am on Thursday 19th September. All performing groups will be required to attend a dress rehearsal on Tuesday 17th September at 10am, no whānau can attend the dress rehearsal sorry.

A programme will be shared closer to the time of the festival. Entry on the performance day is by koha. All proceeds will go towards travel and other related costs. Please note that the performances will be livestreamed on the day from Tautoko FM. Any queries about any of the above please contact us.

Term 3 – Dance and Ukulele

BoDeene from HUSH Dance and Matua Brent had a great start with their groups last week. They will be in our school every Wednesday for Term 3.

Food for Life Hot Lunch day Monday

Food for Life will be at our school in Term 3 every Monday. All classes will be involved. First lunch serving will be from 12-12.30pm for the following classes: 

Ngā Kākano, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9

And the second lunch serving will be from 12.45-1.10pm for these classes: 

R10, Poutama, R14, R15, R16, R17

Special thanks to Kaikohe Bunnings for donating us 10 tables and 30 chairs, and to Kaikohe Rotary for funding to purchase more chairs and tables for our lunch programme. We are now just on the look-out for about 150 cups that can be used to serve dessert into.

Hockey

This week is a closing tournament for hockey. All teams will be playing more than 2 games each this weekend.

Seniors games will start at 11.30am - 12.30pm please meet Whaea Claire at 11.15am. Can we please try and have all our players present for our last games.

Monday 20th August.

3.40pm - Kaikohe East 1 Bench Duty

4.15 pm- Kaikohe East 2 vs Kaikohe West

        - game will finish at 4.50pm

4.50pm - Kaikohe East 1 vs Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe

       - game will finish at 5.25pm.

Whakapakari Shield

This term our seniors have a chance to challenge Ōhaeawai for the Whakapakari shield on the 24th of September playing Soccer and Netball. Teams will be made up mostly of Senior Syndicate classes.

Ōkaihau College

Ōkaihau College enrolment packs for 2020 are available at our school office for whānau who are interested in sending their child/children there. They will also have an Open Day 19th September from 11.30am – 1pm and 5.30pm – 6.30pm.

BasketballThank you to Trudy Beazley and Kyra Matene for managing our Kaikohe East 2 team and will continue to do so till the end of the season.
