Welcome Back!

Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou mō te tau hou! Welcome back to school and to 2016. This year we welcome two new staff members: Whaea Dot Gray who has returned to us from Whangarei and will be teacher aide in the Junior Syndicate and to a new member of our team for the year in Room 1, teacher Whaea Angela Wallis.

 

Welcome New Students

Deepest SympathyOur deepest condolences to whānau who has lost loved ones during the holiday period. To Whaea Tia our teacher in Room 6 who lost her “Pa” Matua Andy Sarich, to the Cassidy whānau of Waima, to the Tairua whānau and to others, our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

 

Farewell Mrs Jarvis

Over the holidays long standing teacher Mrs Fredi Jarvis retired from permanent teaching. We wish her well in her retirement and thank her very much for her contribution to our school.

 

School Information Leaflet

Coming home with today’s newsletter is the school information leaflet which is also available on our school website. Please take the time to read the information and contact us should you need any clarification or have any queries.

Breakfast ClubBreakfast Club is in the hall every morning from 8-8.30am with Whaea Dot and other helpers. All children and whānau are welcome to come and eat or help with breakfast.

 

Swimming Timetable

We have a leak in our pool which we hope to have fixed by the end of this week. The timetable for this term will mostly be the following except for a few days when we have special lessons when days and times may be altered.

2016 Kaikohe East School dates

Term 1  2nd Feb -15th April

Reminder that on the 19th February we will be closing at 1pm for the Kaikohe Schools’ professional development meeting from 1-5pm at Northland College.

Term 2  2nd May -8th July

Term 3  25th July – 23rd Sept

Term 4  10 Oct – 15th December

 

Class Letters

Teachers have been busy finalising letters that will come home today with the newsletter. Letters should introduce teachers and support staff who work in your child’s class and also give you some insight into the Term 1 class programmes. If you have any queries do not hesitate to come and see or contact your child’s teacher.

 

School Uniforms

School uniforms are available from the school office now, polo shirts are $35 and jackets $55. If you require a WINZ quote we can provide one for you and are also happy for whānau to pay uniforms off by setting up an automatic payment. Please come and see Whaea Kohi regarding any Uniform matters.

 

Marae Stay

All classes will be busy this term planning for a Marae stay at Kohewhata Marae. The Senior Syndicate will be staying overnight on Tuesday 15th March, the Middle Syndicate classes overnight on Wednesday 16th March and the Junior Syndicate classes just for the day on Thursday 17th March.

More details about this later but it is expected that all children will stay on the Marae for one night.

 

School Gala Day

Our School Gala Day is planned for Saturday 12th March, please mark this in your calendar and consider how you might help support our fundraising event.

Start keeping clean newspaper for hāngi, we will need wood for the hāngi, clean plastic bags, clothing, bric-a-brac to sell and help on stalls. If you have any ideas about the Gala Day please come and see us or ring Whaea Kohi in the office.

 

Whānau Hui

Teachers have set aside Tuesday 1st March from 3.10pm until about 7pm to meet with whānau to talk about school goals, your child’s goals, to share work your child has done so far and to get to know you and listen to anything you may wish to discuss.
