Term 2 Topics

Teachers have discussed a broad topic for Term 2 called Planet Earth and Beyond. The topic is a broad Science topic that classes will base some of their term 2 work around.

Part of this topic work will involve all classes finding out more about Matariki with a possible whole school Matariki celebration later in the term.

School Website

If you want to find out anything about Kaikohe East School, go to www.kaikeast.school.nz.

You will find Information for Parents, School Newsletters, School Community Events Calendar, Board Minutes and Reports, the school Charter, board policies, etc etc.

Speech Competition

Every year we have two representatives attend the local Primary Schools Rotary Speech Competition. Prior to this we hold a school-wide speech competition whereby all children in each class write a speech, learn it, say it and finalists are selected to participate in our School Competition. Our tentative School Competition has been planned for Thursday 12th June. More details later.

Class sizes/new children

Staff are currently considering some changes of classes for a few children as class numbers in some areas of the school are almost at capacity.

Therefore it is important that we know if you have a child in your Whanau who is turning 5 this year and will be attending our school or if you have any Whanau possibly moving to our school this year.

Please contact us or come and see us if you do.

Bring the child’s birth certificate or passport and their plunket book or their before school check information if you can.

We can still enrol your child without this information but do need it at some stage soon after they start school.

Zero Waste

Last week Sue Woods from Zero Waste visited all classes to talk about among other things how children could reduce the amount of packaging/paper in their lunchboxes. By encouraging Whanau to use less packaging/paper in lunch boxes we hope to reduce the need to get rid of packaging/paper.
