Bilingual for 2017

Any whanau who are wishing to place their child/children into a Bilingual Maori class for 2017 please contact Whaea Chicky to discuss this option.  The classes are operating at 50-80% of the day in Te Reo Maori therefore any children entering these classes should have attended Kohanga Reo and have strong support of Te Reo Maori at home.

End of Year Reports

On Wednesday the 7th of December all children who have been at school for at least 6 weeks will be receiving a report to show how they are progressing toward the National Standard and to give whanau the opportunity to see what their child knows and what their next learning steps are.  

Swimming Every Day

Children are to bring togs, their own towel in a plastic bag on their class swimming days.

Swimming days are as follows:

Seniors 9am – 11am

Rooms 14, 15, 16 and 17

Middle 11.30am – 1pm

Rooms 4, 5, 6 and 9

Juniors 2pm – 3pm

Rooms 1, 2, 3, Manawanui and 8

No swimming for children with sores and or kutus.

Santa’s Grotto Visits

All classes over the next couple of weeks will be walking up to Santa’s Grotto that has been developed at the old Mitre 10 building.  Classes will walk up to the Grotto supervised by at least 2 adults.  Any children not able to attend for religious or other valid reasons please let us know.

Rooms 5 and 6 will be going tomorrow.

Community of Learning

A Community of Learning is a group of Schools, Kura and Early Childhood centres that formally get together to raise achievement.  Working together allows Schools, Kura and Early Childhood Centres to share teaching expertise and experience so every child can benefit.

The venues for CoL meetings are shared across the schools – the next meeting is hosted by Kaikohe East School. The Achievement Challenge document including such challenges as Writing and Maths, is about to be sent to the Minister of Education for approval.

Year 7 - 2017

All Year 6 children need to return the envelope sent home with a Kaikohe Intermediate School enrolment form and information in it last week.

Health Topics for 2017

The school is required to consult with whanau about the Health topics being taught.

Next year our Health Curriculum topics are likely to include the following ideas/topics/content

Term 1 Sun safety and using WITS (walk away, ignore, tell someone rather than get into an argument with someone)

Term 2 Healthy Eating and being active

Term 3 Life Education - keeping safe and taking care of my body

Term 4 Personal Hygiene

Kaikohe East School Board

The Kaikohe East School Board will meet at the school at 1:30pm on Wednesday 7th December.  Go to the school website www.kaikeast.school.nz

Classes for 2017 - Transition

Classes for 2017 have been finalised.  Staff are discussing about transition for next year and now sharing with children what class they will be in for 2017 and spending about 3 days in their new class with their new teacher towards the end of the year.  If any whanau have a comment about this please let us know.  We will confirm this organisation later.

Kaikohe Christmas ParadeThis Saturday, 26th November, is the Kaikohe “Wet and Wild” Christmas parade.  Parking available at Lindvart Park.  Parade starts at 11am, Parade will finish at Kaikohe Rugby Club with the concert to start at 12.30pm!  Come along for a fantastic community event!
