Welcome back!
A special welcome to our new tamariki and their whānau: Tahlia Wilson and Rainbow Hapeta-Neho!
Our Condolences
Our condolences to Whaea Maraea and Whaea Angela who recently had special whanau pass away. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both and your whanau at this sad time.
COVID – 19 Level 2 Lockdown
Alert Level 2 applies to us at KAIKOHE EAST SCHOOL from midday last Wednesday.
At Alert Level 2 it is safe for all students, children and staff to attend school and early learning. There will be appropriate precautions in place.
Children and staff who are at higher-risk of severe illness are encouraged to take additional precautions when leaving home.
Please be alert to illness and ask anyone who is presenting as unwell to go home, or ask parents and caregivers to come and pick the child up.
Messaging about good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette to be reinforced.
Soap and water is very appropriate for washing hands, particularly if hand sanitiser stocks are low.
For schools, children, young people and staff should be far enough away from each other so that they are not breathing on or touching each other, coupled with good hygiene practices and regular cleaning of commonly touched surfaces. There does not need to be a specific measurement but where practicable and reasonable 1 metre can be used as a guide, particularly between adults.
In early learning there does not need to be a measurable physical distance between children/ tamariki or children/tamariki and staff. However adults should where practicable use 1 metre as a guide between themselves and other adults.
Physical distancing of 2 metres is recommended for parents and caregivers, from people they don’t know (to align with public health measures outside the school grounds).
We have the QR code posters for the NZ COVID Tracer App at the school office
Masks
Masks are not required at schools and early learning services at Alert levels 2 and 3.
Since last week we are noticing that not all visitors are following the “sign in rules” If this continues we will be forced to go back to locking the school gates and asking whānau to only come in for emergencies.
HockeyHockey will resume this Saturday 29th of August 2020 for all our Kaikohe East Hockey teams.
There have been some changes to the field and how many people allowed in the turf area. The draw will be put up on the Bay of Islands Hockey facebook page later this evening.
Transition to Kaikohe Intermediate School
Due to us being in Covid Level 2 there will be no transition, we will organise it hopefully later in the term and or have Whaea Freda come to visit us here
Manawa Tahi Hub
Last week there was a Te Manawa Tahi community hub. Te Manawa Tahi is a learning support hub where you can come in and talk to education professionals about your child's learning needs. This is a free service.
If you missed this opportunity please phone 0800 5248 4256.
Another hui is scheduled to happen on Wednesday 2nd September at the Teen Parent Unit.
Senior Art Trip
Over the next few weeks, Senior classes will be visiting the Mobil Ngāpuhi Service Station to see the new art displayed in their shop. When we go will depend on the weather as we will be walking there. Classroom teachers will inform whānau through class FaceBook pages.
BasketballDue to the recent Covid-19 announcement, Northland Basketball has strongly suggested to postpone all play. I will send out a pānui via text to all whānau if basketball resumes next Monday 31st August 2020.
NetballNetball may resume but not this Saturday due to a severe weather warning. A decision about netball continuing to be played on a Saturday or during the week on a Wednesday or Thursday will be advertised soon. There will of course be Covid 19 guidelines that must be followed once it does restart.
