Welcome
This week we would like to welcome the following children their whanau to our school: Wiremu Hulmes-Brown, Ngahuia and Soriah-Jaye Poa.
School Closed
Monday 5th June is Queen’s Birthday, therefore school will be closed on this day, we open as normal on Tuesday, have a lovely long weekend!!
NO Hockey & Netball
Due to Queen’s Birthday Weekend, there is NO Hockey or Netball this Saturday.
Five Year Olds
We have had lots of new 5 year olds starting school recently and are starting to think about starting up a new class that will begin soon. It is likely that Whaea Barbara who has lots of experience teaching at this level will move from Room 4 to teach this new class. Therefore it is likely that a new teacher will begin in Room 4. More details later.
Anti-BullyingBullying-Free Week was last week from 22nd – 26th May, ending with Pink Shirt Day.
Last Friday we, along with many other New Zealanders, celebrated Pink Shirt Day and stood together to take action against bullying.
Pink Shirt Day aims to create schools, workplaces and communities where all people feel safe, valued and respected.
Whanau Hui
During Term 2 teachers will be preparing midterm reports for all children. There will be an opportunity for whanau to come in and meet with teachers on Tuesday 27th June to discuss their child’s progress and report. School will close at 1pm on this day however buses will run as normal. Bus children and any other children with no alternative supervision at home will stay and be supervised at school until 3pm on this day. A letter was sent home last week asking whanau to select a time to come in and to let us know what is happening on this day for your child at 1pm. There are spare forms available at the school office but we will also send them home again next week.
Transition Day
Our next Kaikohe Intermediate School transition days are set for the 15th and 16th of June this term, a letter will be sent home for students involved closer to these dates.
School Speech Competition
Our school speech competition will be held on Wednesday the 14th June, more information will be in the newsletter closer to the date.
Buses
A reminder that bus drivers have asked that no food is to be eaten on their buses please.
Hush Dance StudioToday we were pleased to host our local dancers from HUSH STUDIO who were dancing to raise awareness around Rheumatic Fever.
Upcoming Junior Trip
On the 13th and 14th of June the Junior classes will be taking a trip to Aroha Island. Two classes will be attending on the Tuesday and the other classes will be going on the Wednesday. The trip ties into our Inquiry topic for the term Kaitiakitanga. The children involved will bring a newsletter home closer to the date once details have been finalized.
Kaikohe East School Board
The Kaikohe East School Board will meet at the school tomorrow at 1:30pm, all welcome.
Nga Kuri Auau o KaikoheThe Far North District Council is offering free microchipping and neutering to dogs living in Kaikohe 2017. Bring your kuri to “Dog Day”, Friday 9th June, Memorial Park in Kaikohe. Dogs MUST be on a leash. For more information please contact:

Dental Clinic
The Dental Clinic on our school site will be closed until the 12th June.
If whanau require assistance during this time they will need to ring 0800MYTEETH.
Free Books for the LibraryThanks to School Kit, Kellogg's and New World for the 20 free books we received from their last promotion.
Public Health Nurse
Bev Johnston and Claire Forrest are the Public Health Nurses working with Kaikohe East School. One of us will visit the school weekly, this is generally on a Thursday. We are available to support with health related issues, these include:-
Skin infection, assess and treatment, opportunistic throat swabs, referral to other health Professionals, hearing and vision follow up. Please feel free to contact us or leave a message with school if you would like us to see your child.
