NZEI Strike Action Day

Teachers and principals appreciate the inconvenience of strike action on some families. Members do not take the decision lightly. Primary teachers have not taken industrial action in New Zealand since 1994 and the fact that we are taking such a step now shows the grave concerns we have for the future of quality public education. The government needs to take courageous steps now!

On Thursday 15th of August all Primary School Teachers who are in the NZEI union will be striking therefore our school will be closed.

Shakeout Day

Our school has registered to participate in the National Shakeout Day planned for this term.  All children will participate.

Early closing Friday 24th August

On Friday 24th of August school will be closing at 12pm so that all staff can attend a professional development afternoon at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe with all the other staff from the schools within our community of Learning, Te Arahura.  Buses will be running early and we will be expecting all children to either be collected by 12pm on this day or walk home.

Last weekend’s Senior team player of the day: Angel Holt for good attacking skills and having the confidence to score a goal.

Seniors Year 5/6 is at 11.00am vs Oromāhoe, meet at 10.30 and Juniors Year 3/4 10am vs Oromāhoe meet at 9.30.

Board Meeting

The Kaikohe East School Board will meet at the school at 1:30pm on Wednesday 8 August. Go to the Governance pages on the school website for Board Agendas, Minutes, Reports and Policies

School Lunches

Tomorrow we have sausage sizzle $2 each, soup $1 and juicies $1, on Friday’s we sell pies $2 and juicies.  Orders are taken in the school office after 8am.

ERO Review

Last term our school was reviewed by the Education Review Office.  We are pleased to say that the reviewers were very complimentary about our school.  They have sent us a draft report, the final report will be available by the end of the term for public viewing.  We will share this document once it is available. A big thank you to our staff, whānau, children and Board of Trustees who contributed to the success of this review.


Life Education Caravan

This week we say thanks and farewell to Harold and Whaea Terri.  Our children have loved the lessons they have had with you both in the Life Education Caravan.

Cross Country 2018

On Tuesday 14th August we will be having our Kaikohe East School Cross Country Day at Lindvart Park.

Children will be running in their age groups.

This year we will have a fun walk option for those who are less interested in running. There will be a sausage sizzle for all children when they finish their run back at school and an ice block provided for the runners/walkers immediately after their run/walk.

The timetable for the day will be:

9.30am 9-11 year olds (3 laps)

Interval at school

11.35am 5-6 year olds (1 lap)

12.30pm Walkers (1 lap)

Lunch at school

2.10pm 7-8 year olds (2 laps)

Everyone is welcome to come on down and support our runners.

Cultural Festival 2018

On Wednesday 19th September – dress rehearsal at the Kaikohe Memorial Hall, Friday 21st September Performance Day – entry by koha.  We are pleased to have three Kapa Haka participating from each Syndicate and a dance group.

Room 15, 16 and Tūmanako will be going to Northland College on Friday 10th August to the Science Roadshow.
