Welcome

A special welcome to the following new children and their whānau to our school: Kourtney Fenton

Year 6 Transition Day at Kaikohe Intermediate 

Today all Year 6 tamariki attended another transition day at Kaikohe Intermediate. Whānau are encouraged to start making decisions about where their child/children will go for Year 7. Come and see us if you wish to discuss options available but ultimately the decision is yours to make. I encourage whānau to start making time to visit all options for Year 7. 

Te Arahura Kāhui Ako Huihuinga

On Friday 20th September all local schools who are in the Te Arahura Kāhui Ako will be at Northland College for a huihuinga about the new achievement challenges about Ngāpuhitanga and the Language of Learning. Kaikohe East will be closing at 12.15pm on this day, buses will be collecting children from about this time. Whānau please let us know by completing the form attached to last week’s newsletter so we know what is happening to your child at this time. If you would prefer a phone call is fine or talk to your child’s teacher. There will be no staff at the school from 12.30pm\

Cultural Festival

The annual Cultural Festival has been planned to happen this term. There will be a few Kaikohe East School groups preparing to perform at this annual event which will be held at Kaikohe Memorial Hall at 9.30am on Thursday 19th September. All performing groups will be required to attend a dress reheasal on Tuesday 17th September at 10am, no whānau can attend the dress rehearsal sorry.

A programme with approximate times on it has been shared and available at the school office. Entry on the performance day is by koha. All proceeds will go towards travel and other related costs. Please note that the performances will be livestreamed on the day from Tautoko FM. Any queries about any of the above please contact us.

Te Arahura Staff PD – Writing

Tomorrow all teachers will be attending an afternoon – evening writing professional development session at Kaikohe Intermediate School with other teachers from our Te Arahura Kāhui Ako. The facilitator of our hui is ex Waima School Principal, author and educator Jill Eggleton. We are looking forward to learning more about the teaching of writing from Jill.

Term 3 – Ukulele

Special mention this week to Charlie Young who is in Matua Brent’s Ukulele roopu. Charlie has been a stand out member who is always on time, prepared and practised each week. Ka pai tō mahi Charlie!

Food for Life Hot Lunch Day Monday

Food for Life will be at our school in Term 3 every Monday. All classes will be involved. First lunch serving will be from 12-12.30pm for the following classes: 

Ngā Kākano, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9

And the second lunch serving will be from 12.45-1.10pm for these classes: 

R10, Poutama, R14, R15, R16, R17

Special thanks to Kaikohe Bunnings for donating us 10 tables and 30 chairs, and to Kaikohe Rotary for funding to purchase more chairs and tables for our lunch programme. We are now just on the look-out for about 150 cups that can be used to serve dessert into.

No food for Life Monday 26th August as the organisers have a big event on in Whangarei.

Basketball

Thank you to Trudy Beazley and Kyra Matene for managing our Kaikohe East 2 team and will continue to do so till the end of the season.

Next game is on Monday 27th August – still awaiting draw

Steven Adams Basketball

We have had the opportunity for some of our students to attend Steven Adams Camp being held at the Kensington Stadium in Whangarei, Saturday 24th of August from 9.00am - 11.30am.

Congratulations to Wakaroa, Samuel, Vase-Leigh, Kharnae and Sadidas who will be attending the camp. We would also like to thank Te Hau Ora and Taal Smith for providing tickets for our school.

Hockey

Last Saturday we played in the closing day tournament for hockey. Congratulations to our senior hockey team who won the KIWI STICKS A grade closing day tournament.

MINI STICK players of the day was awarded to the whole team! 

There is prize giving this Saturday 24th of August starting at 10.00am with children versing parent’s fun games and the prize giving at 11.00am. After prize giving you are welcome to bring a lunch and have a picnic with your team.

Unfortunately Whaea Claire will be absent this weekend but Whaea Michelle and Whaea Huia will be there to support our teams.

Thank you for an outstanding hockey season.

Year 6 Camp

Next term our Year 6 students will be going on a Leavers Camp to Coopers Beach Christian Camp. We are awaiting confirmation of our booking. We are hoping to secure the 2nd-4th of December. 

New Sign Blessing Special thanks to the whānau who came to celebrate the blessing of our new school sign last week. We had 5 of our tamariki from Ngā Kākano unveil the sign with a very fitting kōrero from Matua Jim.
