Your child will be provided with a sausage sizzle and ice block to go towards the event on the day.
Strike Day – No School Wednesday 29th May
Please note that there will be no school and therefore no buses running on this day. All teachers who are union members will be taking strike action in an effort to force the Government into accepting ideas to improve teacher conditions.
Some of these conditions include:
Recruitment and retention
Teacher’s numbers nationally are decreasing. We are finding this at our school for the first time this year. We struggle to find relievers on some days when teachers are away sick and when we have positions advertised we are lucky to get 4 or 5 applicants compared to about 15-20 a few years ago.
Better working conditions for teachers
Teachers have consistently raised high workloads, lack of support for students with additional learning and behavioural needs, and undervaluing of the profession as key issues over the last few years.
The four main issues we are focusing on are:
the crisis in education
time and workload
issues with salary and relativities
career development
Rotary Speech Competition
It is that time of the year again. The school speech competition will be held in our school hall on the week beginning 10th June, exact day to be confirmed. All classes will be participating but only selected children will present their speeches in the hall. There will be the opportunity for Year 5 -6 children to compete in either the competitive or non-competitive section.
Two children from the competitive section will represent us at the Kaikohe Rotary Competition that is being held on the evening of Wednesday 19th June.
Whānau Hui Day
On Monday 1st July school will be closing at 12.30pm. Teachers will be available from then onwards to meet with whānau to discuss their child/children’s progress and achievement so far this term. Your child has brought home the initial appointment booking form, thanks to those who have been returned. If you haven’t please complete and return the form to the office as soon as possible. If you have any queries or require another form, please contact Kohi in the office on 4011532 or free phone 0508 KAIKOHE.
