Newsletter 201639 - 7 December 2016

Welcome!!

We welcome back to school tomorrow Mrs Shields who has been away on leave for some time. A special farewell and thank you to Whaea LeeAnn Rakete who has been relieving for Mrs Shields in Room 12.

Thanks

To all our whanau who have supported us over the past year by attending school events and sporting activities we say a huge thank you!

Special thanks to Whaea Ani and Whaea Lois who have been volunteering their help and time to make breakfast for all our children this year. Your support is very much appreciated!

Friday 9th December – staff at Professional Development from 1pm

All staff will be attending a Professional Development afternoon from 1pm on this day at Northland College with all other local schools. We need to know what is happening to your child at this time please. Feel free to ring us or see your child’s teacher if you prefer. Buses will leave from school from 1pm on this day.

There will be minimal supervision available on this day.

Classes for 2017 - Transition

Classes for 2017 have been finalised. On Tuesday 13th December and Wednesday 14th we will have transition for next year. All children will be told their class and teacher 2017 and will spend these two days in their new class with their new teacher where possible. At this stage the only teacher unable to be here is Whaea Claire Edmonds who will be teaching in Room 15 next year.

End of Year Reports

All children who have been at school for at least 6 weeks will be receiving a report to show how they are progressing toward the National Standard and to give whanau the opportunity to see what their child knows and what their next learning steps are.

Whanau will notice an attendance comment on reports.

Excellent means your child has had 90 -100% attendance

Satisfactory means your child has had 70-90% attendance

Unsatisfactory means your child has had less than 70% at school.

Our apologies in advance, while we try really hard to ensure there are no errors on reports at times sometimes we miss things, please do not hesitate to come and see us if you notice an error, we will fix it for you.

Attendance in 2017

Teachers are asking whanau who have children with unsatisfactory attendance recorded on their end of school reports to please try to get their child/children to school more regularly in 2017. Our school wide attendance is very poor and while we don’t want children at school who are sick we are aware that at times children are kept home for what we believe are unjustified reasons. We also appreciate whanau contacting us to ensure we record accurately why children are away. Any concerns regarding this do not hesitate to come and talk to us.
