Welcome New Students

A special welcome to our new tamariki and their whānau: Te Waimarama Clarke-Tumata, Devantae Neho-Lowry, Jewel Newman, Wyatt Wilson, Paerau Apirana, Storm Barber, Ripeka Joyce, Hakaraia and Hoori Moka and Hakopa Reihana.

 

School Gala DayOur School Gala Day is planned for Saturday 12th March, please mark this in your calendar and consider how you might help support our fundraising event.

 

At this stage we require helpers for various stalls and hāngi preparation. If you are available to help in any way please come in and see Kohi in the school office or by phone on 4011532

Start keeping clean newspaper for hāngi, we will need wood for the hāngi, clean plastic bags, clean clothing, bric-a-brac to sell and help on stalls. If you have any ideas about the Gala Day please come and see us or ring Whaea Kohi in the office.

 

School Information Leaflet

Last week we sent home the school information leaflet which is also available on our school website. Please take the time to read the information and contact us should you need any clarification, have any queries or if you need another copy.

 

Swimming Timetable

We are hoping the pool will be fixed by the end of this week. Please check which day your child has swimming and ensure they have their togs and towel.

Rooms 6,5,1,3,2,7 will be Mondays and Wednesdays

Rooms 16,15,14,9,8,4 will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

Swim SafeWe are lucky to have Rona from Swim Safe come and take each class for 4 lessons this term teaching water safety and skills. Again please ensure your child has their togs and towel on the following dates:

Rooms 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7: Monday 15th, Wednesday 17th, Friday 19th and Monday 22nd February.

Rooms 4, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16: Friday 26th and Monday 29th February and Friday 4th and Monday 7th March.

 

Kaikohe East Swimming Sports

We will be holding our own swimming sports for Years 4-6 on Wed 24th Feb. Details to follow.

 

Interschool Swimming Sports

This is for years 4-8 and will be held Fri 11th Mar at a venue to be confirmed.

Term 1 2nd Feb -15th April

Reminder that on the 19th February we will be closing at 1pm for the Kaikohe Schools’ professional development meeting from 1-5pm at Northland College.

Term 2 2 May – 8 July

Term 3 25 July  - 23 Sept

Term 4 10 Oct – 15 December

 

School Uniforms

School uniforms are available from the school office now, polo shirts are $35 and jackets $55. If you require a WINZ quote we can provide one for you and are also happy for whanau to pay uniforms off by setting up an automatic payment. Please come and see Whaea Kohi regarding any Uniform matters.

 

Marae Stay

All classes will be busy this term planning for a Marae stay at Kohewhata Marae.

The Senior Syndicate (Rooms 8, 14,15,16) will be staying overnight on Tuesday 15th March, the Middle Syndicate classes (Rooms 4,5,6,9) overnight on Wednesday 16th March and the Junior Syndicate classes (Rooms 1,2,3,7) just for the day on Thursday 17th March.

More details about this later but it is expected that all children will participate.

 

Kapahaka for Everyone

This term we have started rotating all classes through Kapahaka practise. At this time the children will learn Himene, Waiata, Waiata-a-ringa and Haka which will then be reinforced at morning Karakia.

 

Class Letters

Class letters came home with the newsletter last week with the newsletter. Letters should introduce teachers and support staff who work in your child’s class and also give you some insight into the Term 1 class programmes. If you have any queries do not hesitate to come and see or contact your child’s teacher. Or if you did not receive a copy of a class letter for your child please contact the office or ask your child’s teacher for one.

 

Project Energize

Gina from Sport Northland will be coming in to teach Ki O Rahi throughout the term. Sessions will be run for all classes.

 

Free Fruit, Milk and Bread

Our school receives free fruit, bread and milk. Every class is provided with this kai on a daily basis.

 

Gardening Club

Every week Miss Mason runs 2 x gardening sessions at lunchtimes for our keen gardeners across the school. If any whanau would like to come in and work in our garden with small groups we welcome your expertise and awhi.

 

Breakfast Club

Each morning before school from 8am to 8.30am we have breakfast club in the hall. This is free to all students and whanau. We have a variety of breakfast from cereals and yoghurt to baked beans and eggs. Nau mai haere mai!

A huge thankyou to Whaea Dot and Whaea Sophie for coming in and running this each morning. We do need more volunteers to come in and set this up so please if you have the time come in and see Lydia or Kelli to organise a day you may be able to help.

 

Whānau Hui

Teachers have set aside Tuesday 1st March from 3.10pm until about 7pm to meet with whanau to talk about school goals, your child’s goals, to share work your child has done so far and to get to know you and listen to anything you may wish to discuss.
