OneSight

Whanau of a few children who were tested require a visit to an Optometrist.  The whanau of these children will be contacted to collect vouchers that will pay for this visit hopefully this week.

Welcome

A special welcome to new student Manu Enoka.

Next term we welcome Whaea Waiora back from maternity leave. She will return to teaching in Room 9 Rangimarie.  Whaea Kelli will return to teaching Maths and Whaea Ceri will be in Room 12.

Term Four

Term 4 begins on Monday 16 October, we look forward to seeing all tamariki back from their holidays on this day.

Counselling services

We have been lucky enough to be approached by Davina Smolders, a child counsellor, who is wanting to come to our school on Wednesdays to help some children with a programme called “Keeping Safe”.  Davina delivers the individual sessions through art and will be available to whanau who have any questions.

We have selected a small group to start with Davina next term once we have whanau consent.  Whaea Chicky will be contacting the whanau of the children involved.

Class Organisation for 2018

Staff are currently planning classes and organising for 2018.  We are considering a new class for boys in Room 10 to develop their potential through building strong relationships, creating opportunities to learn differently through drama, play, sport, physed, art and most importantly with things that interest them.  This class will have about 25 selected boys in it with 2 teachers and will require whanau to be totally supportive and involved to ensure the boys exceed their potential.

If you are interested in hearing more about this class and or think it might be a good idea for your son, come and see Whaea Chicky.  Staff have drafted a list of boys who we think will thrive in this type of classroom but we will only put them in this class if whanau are agreeable.

Kapa Haka Performance

The Middle Syndicate kapa haka is performing at the Kaikohe Aged Care Centre this Friday 29 September at 10:30am. They are travelling by bus and will be back at school by lunchtime.

Cultural Festival

What a great community day we had last week at the annual Cultural Festival.  Thanks to all our whanau who came to support all our school roopu.  Thanks also to our wonderful staff and whanau who prepared our tamariki so well for their performances. We all felt a lot of pride watching each roopu take the stage, nga mihi nui ki a koutou.

Koha raised was in excess of $1,000, this will be used to pay the costs of hiring the hall and will go towards paying some bus costs for schools that travelled.  We are all looking forward to next year’s Festival which will be held late Term 3.

Please ensure your child/children are in school uniform on photo day! Polo shirt, black bottoms (pants/shorts/skirt/tights) and the school jacket or hoodie if they have one.  If your child doesn’t yet have a school polo shirt please wear black bottoms as we will provide them with a polo shirt for the photo.

Room 5 Trip

Room 5 went to Omanaia School today, Wednesday 27 September to return the visit that some children from Omanaia School made to our class last year. This visit is part of our hauora focus around making and maintaining friendships and exploring the differences between small and large schools.
