Tanga cards

This year we are introducing a new reward system to replace our pink Caught Being Good Cards. We now have ‘TANGA’ cards that reflect the culture and values of our school. Children can earn these and they are then posted into a barrel to be drawn at assembly every fortnight. There are prizes for each name drawn out and end of term prizes for the most cards in a class. Each child has also been given a scrapbook to keep all their Tanga cards in so they can share their achievements with whanau and friends.

There are four different colour cards and they are:

Whanau Hui

Thanks to all the whanau who attended yesterday’s whanau hui.  Your child’s/children’s name/s will go into a draw to win one new school polo shirt and school jacket.  The draw will be done after Room 8 whanau have had a new date.

Unfortunately yesterday the teacher in Room 8 Whaea Angela was away therefore another day will be scheduled for the whanau of this class to attend.  Our apologies for this however Whaea Angela is currently unwell.

Marae Stay thanksTo our staff and whanau that came along to help at our recent Marae stay, a huge thank you.  While the weather was unkind the manaaki and whanaungatanga shown was immense.  Here are a few pictures from the Marae Stay.

Manaakitanga (for supporting and showing kindness to others)

Rangatiratanga (for showing leadership and decision making skills)

Kotahitanga (for working for the good of our class and school)

Whanaungatanga (for sharing and working with others)

It would be great if whanau could talk to children about ‘TANGA” cards too and help them to remember what they are all about

Netball

All Year 5 and 6 children interested in playing Saturday Netball this year, please see Whaea Lainie and keep an eye out for practices in the daybook.

Complaints

Whanau are reminded that the correct way to deal with any issues is to please come and see your child’s teacher in the first instance.  If after that and you need further assistance please come and see Whaea Chicky, it is not ok for whanau to come into the school and threaten children or try to sort things out.

This is the official statement about making a complaint or if you have concerns:

If you have concerns or complaints that you wish to discuss, contact the office and make an appointment to meet the principal, or see your child’s teacher in the first instance.

If you consider that your concerns are not being addressed, a complaint should be made, in writing, to the chairperson of the board of trustees:

Year 6 Transition – this Friday

On Friday 24th March our Year 6 tamariki will be going up to Kaikohe Intermediate School from 9.30-12.30pm for transition.  They will be involved in activities during the day that will give them some idea about what it might be like to attend Kaikohe Intermediate school in 2018.

Whanau are welcome to attend too.

Ukulele Lessons

Lessons for selected children began today with Matua Henare and Whaea Jane.  Lessons will continue until the end of the term at this stage.  We are hoping to invite whanau to a “ukulele group performance” at the end of the term. Details later!

Gates

This week we are reminding children not to walk through the school carpark or down by the caretakers shed when entering or leaving school.  Children should only use the gate up by Mangakahia Road or Purdy Street.

Wheels at school

Children are welcome to bring their bike, scooters etc to school but they must wear a helmet at all times and their wheels are left behind Room 12 in the bike shed only so it is essential that they also have a chain and lock to keep it safe.  Wheels are only to be ridden at school on the basketball court or field during break times.
