Welcome

This week we welcome the following new student and their whanau: Kauri Civil.

 

Bus Bay

A friendly reminder to all whanau and friends that the School Bus Bay is for BUSES ONLY, do not park there before and after school.

 

NZEI/PPTA UNION MEETING SCHOOL CLOSED

School will be closing early on Wednesday 7th September at 12.30pm.  All teachers, the principal and support staff are required to attend a Union meeting in Kerikeri.  The purpose of the meeting is to inform all staff of the key proposals in the Funding Review for education.

Buses will be running from 12pm on this day.

Please return the yellow letter sent home this week to let us know what is happening to your child on this day, or you can phone. If you have any queries at all about this day do not hesitate to call us on 0508 Kaikohe, or 09 4011532 or text 021411534 or come and see us at the office or see your child’s teacher.

Netball/Hockey Prize giving

We are having a “school prize giving” in our school hall for all netball and hockey teams/coaches on Friday 9th September starting at 12.30pm.  All children to please bring a plate of kai for a shared lunch.  At this prize giving we will honour and thank our coaches for the season.  All season certificates will be presented to our Hockey and Netball players at school assembly this Friday, 9.10am.

 

Kutus

We are noticing a number of children who have kutus.  We ask whanau to check and clean your children’s hair regularly.  If you require a comb and kutu solution please come in and see us at the office.

 

Cultural Festival

We are underway with getting ready to perform at the annual Cultural Festival to be held at Northland College hall on Thursday 15th September, starting at 10am.  Entry is by Koha, the final programme for the day will be published in the newsletter next week.

 

School Uniforms - compulsory

Next year we are making the wearing of school uniforms compulsory for all children.  We are currently trying to source a new, slightly cheaper option, but we only have limited uniform sizes in stock now that can be purchased at the office or time payments can be set up on line. We will notify whanau through the newsletter when our new stock is in.

 

Transition Day tomorrow

All Year 6 children will be attending the next planned Transition Day at Kaikohe Intermediate School on 1st September (tomorrow) from approximately 9-2.30pm.  Whanau are welcome to attend with their tamariki to see what the school has to offer for next year.  The children will be involved in various classroom activities on this day that will give them some idea of what Year 7 will be like for them at Kaikohe Intermediate.  The Principal Freda Mokaraka will also be available to speak with whanau should you wish to.

 

Junior and Middle Syndicate

The Junior and Middle syndicates are holding an Olympic celebration next Thursday 8th September. We will be spending the day competing in different sports and enjoying some delicious food from around the world. The games will begin at 9:30 so please come along and join us.

 

Photo Day

Our photo day is planned for Wednesday 21st September.  Whanau photos will start at 8am followed by class and individual photos starting with the younger classes first at about 9am. Please send orders with payment in a sealed envelope labelled with your child’s name and room number.  Order forms are available from the school office or if you visit our Facebook page you will find the link to order and pay online.

 

Big Boys Heritage Toys Pioneer Village

Father’s Day, Sunday 4th September 2016 from 11am – 3.00pm the Pioneer Village will be hosting “Big Boys Heritage Toys” this day will include Rides, Blokes BBQ, Working Forge, Machines & Chainsaws, Rural Fire Fighters Demo and lots more!

 

Social Worker in Schools

A reminder to whanau that we have a School Social Worker who works in our school every Wednesday and Thursday. Her name is Whaea Lucy. She can be contacted by phoning the school office.  Whaea Lucy works with whanau and children who may need support or someone to talk things through.
