Welcome

A special welcome back to Matua Jim Shortland who has been away on leave. As Matua Jim continues to recover from surgery on his foot he and Whaea Huia will share the role of teacher in Room 16 until the end of the year. For the next couple of weeks Matua Jim will be teaching from 9-11.30am and Whaea Huia will teach from 11.30-3pm. We are confident that this shared role will work for the children but if whanau have any concerns please do not hesitate to come and speak with Whaea Chicky.

We also welcome new students Rehutai Woodman and Iroam-Lee Poa Hulmes.

Congratulations

Last week our Board of Trustees confirmed the following new teacher appointments for 2018. Our congratulations to the following teachers who have been appointed to either one year or permanent teaching positions at our school.

Poutama Parents Hui

Kelli and Lydia will be hosting a parent evening next Thursday 16 November at 5.30pm. This will be for those whanau who are interested in hearing our kaupapa for the 2018 boys’ class. We will be contacting those whanau whose tamariki have been selected, however we encourage anyone to come along for a listen. Any questions please feel free to contact Chicky, Lydia or Kelli.

Senior Syndicate Trip

This term we have been learning about community facilities. All senior classes will be going to Kawakawa on Wednesday 15 November. We will be going on the train, swimming at the pool and having lunch at the park. A permission slip with extra information will be going home today.

Whakapakari Challenge

On Thursday 16 November we will be taking our year 5 and 6 Netball and Rugby Teams to Ohaeawai to participate in the 2017 Whakapakari Shield Challenge. We will be leaving school at 11.30am. The year 3 and 4 teams will be playing at 12pm, and the year 5 and 6 teams will be playing at 1pm. Newsletters and permission slips will be sent out to those selected sports stars before this Friday.

Middle Syndicate Trip

Rooms 4, 5, 6 and Rangimarie are visiting Te Ahuahu maunga at on Tuesday 14 November. This is part of our focus on our community, looking at our part of te whare o Ngapuhi. We will travel by bus leaving school at 9:00 and return in time for our morning break.

Bay of Islands ShowThis year the 175th Bay of Islands Show (Waimate North) is being held on Saturday 11 November. Some of our students have entered their work in the Arts and Crafts section.

Kaikohe Intermediate School 2018

Last week Year 6 students took home a Kaikohe Intermediate School Enrolment Pack. If the form is completed and returned to the intermediate school (or completed online) by 24 November you will go into the draw to win a $100 gift card from the Warehouse or Countdown.

Kaikohekohe Games

On Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 November Room 15 will be involved in the Kaikohekohe Games being held at Lindvart Park. Children will walk over to the park on both days at about 9am and return to school by 2.30pm. Children must bring their lunch, water and wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Up to date Contact Details

Next week we will be sending home a leaflet to whanau who we need up to date contact details for please. If you know your details are incorrect or you just want to check please come in this week or contact us to update now. It is important that we have correct numbers. Too often we try numbers that are either not connecting, incorrect or out of date.

Enrolments for Next Year.

We are starting to organise classes for next year. If you have a child that is turning five over the christmas break and will be attending our Kura next year please could you try to come in and enrol them before the end of the school year. Then we will have them placed in a class ready to start in February.

OnesightIf your child brought home a note last term to say that they would be receiving free prescription glasses OR vouchers, the glasses and vouchers have arrived. Parents/caregivers should call at the school office to collect the glasses or vouchers.
