Welcome

Welcome to all our new tamariki and their whānau! 

Nau mai haere mai!

Here are the names of our new tamariki – Sharon and Kapo Riini, Aaliyah and Te Awa Mischewski, Rangimarie Poutai, Cache’ and Illicit Whiu, Zion Rameka-Rakete, Kahurangi Parangi, Jason Hapeta, Erana Rameka, Gordon Paetai-Sampson, Kimberly Tafea and Amethyst Otene.

Next week we welcome Matua Te Paerangi Kopa who will be our new Kaiāwhina in Te Korowai o te Aroha.

School Closed 

Our Te Arahura Kāhui Ako have another planned Professional Development day on Friday 12th March therefore school will be closed while teachers attend this.

Sports Day - Friday 26 February

Whānau are welcome to come into school at any time on Friday to sit in their child’s/children’s class, see their mahi and join in on any mahi happening during the day. There may also be an opportunity for whānau to have a kōrero with kaiako. Please make sure you sign in at the office to go into a draw for a school polo shirt. Once you have signed in feel free to go into classrooms. Sausage-sizzle and ice blocks provided for all students after the sports.

Food at School

Breakfast Club

Whaea Nicky started Breakfast Club this week. Breakfast will be available in the school hall every day from 8am until about 8.30am.

Snacks in classrooms

This week teachers will have snacks from Kids Can available for children in their rooms.

Fruit in Schools

All classes will start receiving fruit next week.

Free Lunch programme

We are currently working through this process with the Ministry of Education, we are scheduled to start the free lunch programme from the beginning of Term 2.

Thursday is Hotdog/Juicie day

Friday is Pie/Juicie day

Prices: Hot dogs and Pies $2.50

Juicies $1

Please order before 9am in the school office, lunches will be delivered to classes at lunchtime.

Special Rights – Whaea Kaz

Monument Hill Walks 

Some Senior and Middle classes will be taking a walk to Monument hill one day next week to learn about the significance of places in our area.

Stationery

All children are given a pack of stationary when they begin in their new class. There is no cost for stationary provided that your child is at school 100 % for the first two weeks of school. If they are away whānau will be invoiced for $20.

Uniform

We have polo shirt sizes 10 & 12 back in stock! Call in to the office.

Marae Overnight Stays

We have confirmed the following dates for our Ngāwhā Marae overnight stays. Permission slips with specific information for each class will follow in the next few weeks.

Rooms 5, 7 and 17 - Te Korowai o te Aroha - Tuesday 2nd March

Rooms 4, 12, 15 - Wednesday 3rd March

Rooms 1, 2, 10 - Thursday 4th March

Rooms 6, 8, 16 - Tuesday 9th March

Rooms 3, 9, 14 - Wednesday 10th March 

Any whānau wishing to attend the camp please contact your child’s teacher.

Swimming Timetable

This week we were pleased to have swimming guidance from Matua Tupara/Sport Northland during class swimming sessions.

Here is the swimming programme;

Monday - Rooms 15, 16, 14, 9, 10, 4, 5 and 3

Tuesday – Rooms 12, 13, 8, 7, 17, 1 & 2 and 6

Wednesday –Rooms 15, 16, 14, 9, 10, 4, 5 and 3

Thursday – Rooms 12, 8, 7, 17, 1 & 2 and 6

Board Meeting

Our next Kaikohe East School Board Meeting is planned for Monday 22nd February. 

Kaikohe Swimming Club

Registration days for Learn to Swim (5-10years) and Development Swimmers (8-16years) 4pm at the Northland College Pool on Wednesday 10th and Monday 15th February. Any queries contact Anne on 0274451775.
