Newsletter 202112 - 5 May 2021

Welcome

A special welcome to two new staff members who have joined our whānau this week.  Working in Te Korowai o te Aroha as a Teacher Aide – Matua Wiremu Herewini-Hona and working in Rangimārie Teacher Trainee Whaea Lainie Nathan who is teaching alongside Whaea Waiora for the next  6 weeks.

And a very warm welcome to our new and returning tamariki this term Kazley Hepi, Lincoln Tau-Roberts and Natasha Tui.

Lunches Term 2

This week we added Pita Pit to our lunch menu specially prepared locally by Cafe Malaahi. Pita Pit will be delivered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Subway will continue to be provided on Thursday and Friday.  Please let the office or class teacher know of any allergies or dietary requirements if there are any updates needed for any children. Here are a couple of pics of what we are receiving for our free lunches.

Te Hau Ora Nurses in School

Every Tuesday we are lucky enough to have Te Hau Ora o Ngāpuhi nurses visit our school to do health assessments and if necessary follow up with whānau or provide Doctor perscription’s etc.  All we need from whānau is a signed consent form, usually completed upon enrolment which enables nurses to look at any health concerns children may come to school with.  If you are unsure about whether or not your child has consent to see a Nurse please contact us.  If you need another consent form we have them available at the office or we could send a copy to whānau via email.  Because this is a free service we encourage whānau to use it too, if you have any worries for your child’s health (eg sores, ear ache, sore throat, kutus) let us know and we will add them to the list for Nurses to assess

Room 5 – Junior Bilingual

We still have a few spaces in our Junior Bilingual class for this term.  If any whānau are wanting to move their child/children from mainstream and they are Year 1 or 2 please come and see Whaea Jacinda or Whaea Chicky.

Winter Sport Netball & Hockey

This week we start our winter sports with Netball being played on Wednesday’s after school, from approximately 3.30pm - 4.45pm. We definitely have 3x  year 5/6 teams and 2x  year 3/4 teams to enter in the competition. Children can walk with coaches and teams to Lindvart netball courts after school and will change into uniforms there. Please make sure that your child is wearing the appropriate footwear to play netball and brings a water bottle.

We are still looking for 2 other parents to help manage on the day.

Hockey starts this Saturday 8th of May 2021. It is an open day tournament and all teams will have 3-4 games each. We have entered 6 teams into the competition. We will be having practices at school for our juniors on Thursdays and our senior hockey teams will have their practices, starting this Friday from 3.30pm - 4.30pm at the Lindvart hockey turf. Please make sure your child wears the appropriate footwear to play hockey (sneakers), has a mouth guard and shin pads. The school will provide hockey sticks. We do need 2 more parent helpers to manage on Saturdays.

This term, Taal Smith will be running a Basketball module for U9's, U11’s and U13’s at Northland College on Monday afternoon’s from Monday 24th May, starting at 3.45pm to 5.30pm. We have 2x U11's and 1x U9's team. We do have a U9's manager and we are looking for 2 more managers for our U11's.  There will be a hui on Monday 17th May 4.30pm at Kaikohe Rugby, for anyone wishing to be a part of the organising committee. The plan is to operate under the umbrella of Northland Basketball again.

If whānau wish to come and support any of our teams by managing or coaching a team in our sporting areas to give our tamariki that opportunity and experience of being part of a team and having fun, please don't hesitate to come see Whaea Claire or Whaea Lydia.

Holiday project work

It was great to finally have our outdoor seating/shaded area completed over the holidays.

The following students have won themselves a $150 scholarship to dance with Alannah at her studio in Moerewa once a week, for 10 weeks.
