Welcome to Term Two

This week we would like to welcome Davantae Edmonds and Boston Waia to Room 1.


Board Members

At the close of nominations, as the number of valid nominations was equal to the number of vacancies required to be filled, I hereby declare the following duly elected: Lisa Tuwhangai, Alicia TomuriShenelle Cassidy and Here Paewhenua as Parent Representatives and Graeme Shaw as Staff Representative. Congratulations to all.


Sports Fee Paid By School

After the success of last year’s trial, we have decided to provide this service again this year.  Any tamariki wishing to play Saturday Hockey, Netball for the school, or who play for Kaikohe Rugby Club or any Kaikohe League Club the school will cover your season fee. The aim of this initiative is to try to encourage as many of our tamariki to play sport and also to encourage whānau to come along and support them.


Learning at Home

Here are some activities Whānau might like to do at home with the 5-6year olds.

  • Identifying colours, start with just choosing one colour then progress to choosing more than one colour.
  • Practising counting out aloud from 1 to 20, then try going backwards.
  • Identifying letters of the alphabet in a book or in the newspaper.


JMB Netball 

JMB Netball continues this Saturday at Lindvart Park. All games will start promptly at 9am and will be finished at about 9.50am. All players need to be at Lindvart Park to meet their coaches by 8.30am.Player of the Day for teams on Saturday are:

Eagles: Anahera Rogers-Simeon

Sparrows: Capree Stillwell-Ngaropo

Both players will receive a McDonald’s Player of the Day certificate.


BOI JMC Hockey

Last Saturday’s Opening Tournament went really well, we had an amazing group of enthusiastic children arrive ready to play congratulations to our player’s of the day, Jesikah Wihongi, Fun Sticks and Summer Emile, Kiwi Sticks One.  Hockey continues again this Saturday with the first round of the Bev Beverwijk Tournament.  This year we are able to field four Saturday hockey teams, fantastic! Could all players please be at the Lindvart Park Turf by no later than 8:30am to meet your coaches, the organisers will be strict on time this year.


Free Nit/Kutu Combs and oil

We currently have free Nit/Kutu combs and spray available for any parents who would like them, please see Kohi at the office if you would like a comb and a oil as we will not be distributing them to children. These have been kindly donated by the Kids Can organisation.


New Enrolments

Due to overwhelming numbers in Te Korowai o te Aroha – Maori Bilingual Unit, at this stage we are unable to take any new enrolments in to Manawanui, Rangimarie and Tumanako.  Students will be placed on a waiting list and in to mainstream classes until spaces are available.


Rheumatic Fever Swabbing

This term the Rheumatic Fever team are travelling around to our local schools doing Mass Throat Swabbing, because of this they are unable to do the usual weekly visits to our school, however, we would like to remind parents that if your child complains of a sore throat to please let Kohi in the office know, we will be keeping a record and contacting them to come in and swab when we need them.


Fire Evacuation practise

This week we will have a fire evacuation practise to ensure that all our children, staff and visitors are familiar with what to do in an emergency situation.

When a continuous bell rings this indicates that everyone in the school must assemble down by the Junior Playground near Purdy Street.


BOI Gym Club

Starting Tuesday 3.30pm – 4.30pm for 2-7 year olds

Thursdays 3.30pm – 4.30pm for 8-12+ year olds at Kaikohe Intermediate School hall. Cost $40 per term. Contact Karla Tawhai on 09 4011706 or just turn up.
