Welcome

This week we would like to welcome Chrystal Gent to our school.

Holidays

This Friday 19th April is the last day for Term 1. Term 2 begins on Monday 6th May.

Weetbix Tryathlon

Wow! What a fantastic weekend our Tryathletes and their supporters had! We are very proud of you all. Our special thanks to our staff who prepared our Tryathletes and to the many supporters we had for our team in Auckland on Sunday. A special mention to Isabelle Palmer who won a brand new Avanti bike.

School Uniform Choice

All whanau and children have the opportunity to select either Sample A, B or C currently on display in the school office. Please feel free to come in and make your vote.  You may change your vote once you see the uniforms on children. Feel free to ask us to get some children to model the samples for you. Voting for samples will close this Thursday 19th April.

Bus Bay Parking

Yesterday Matua Jim witnessed a close shave between a car and a bus. Whanau are reminded to not park or pick up children from the bus bay please.

Wagon Wheel Day

What an awesome day we had last Thursday. Thank you to the whanau who came along to support our tamariki.

School Trustee Elections

The School Trustee Elections are being held this year, and we need you to get involved.  Our school is governed by a democratically elected group of people called the Board of Trustees. These trustees make important decisions about our school's strategic direction, student achievement outcomes, resources, staffing and much more.  Being a trustee is an important and rewarding role. Parents, families, whānau and people from the wider community can all be trustees. We're looking for a range of people with a variety of skills, experiences, and attributes who believe in making a positive difference to our children’s learning.  If you're interested in standing for election or nominating someone you know, please contact the school office by phone 4011532 or by email admin@kaikeast.school.nz. Nominations close on 16th May.

National Election Day is 30 May.

Make sure your vote counts. All parents of full-time students who are on the school voting roll can and should vote in the elections. Look for your voting papers in your letterbox and make sure your vote is received by noon 30 May.

Term 2 Topics

Next term teachers will be planning programmes around the following topics: Kia Kaha – Anti Bullying, and Road Safety. We will also be starting the term with a visit from Sue Woods who will reinforce Recycling, Reusing and Reducing with all classes.

Kaikohe Intermediate Gala

The Kaikohe Intermediate School Twilight Gala Day is to be held tomorrow Thursday 18th April starting at 3pm.

Swimming

The Swimming season has officially finished. The pool is now closed.

New class for Term 2

Following a lot of discussion among staff and Whanau of the children in Room 12 the decision was made not to go ahead with appointing a new teacher in Room 12. We are however looking at other ways of supporting our Year 5 and 6 children’s learning. Room 2 may be opening at the beginning of the term due to the number of 5 year olds we are enrolling.

Furniture for Sale

We still have furniture for sale desk and chair sets $5 each as well as large table with 6 chairs $60 each.

Slippers

We would like to say thank you to Wendy Dwyer who kindly donated approximately 20 pairs of home knitted slippers. They are beautiful and cosy.

Turf Installation

This week once the weather clears we hope to have the turf installation completed on the netball courts.
