Newsletter 201237 - 28 November 2012

Welcome

We welcome back to our kura the following new tamariki: Alexander Phork and Nesha Murray-Kaihe.

Kelly Tarlton’s Trip

Many thanks to the whānau who attended the trip this week with our children from Rooms 5 and 6. Next week we will hopefully have some pictures of the trip to share.

Ngā Kakano Pūāwai o Kaikohekohe

Promoting Early Childhood Education and providing a place for whanau and babies.

Grand Opening Friday 30th November 10am behind the AA shop Broadway Kaikohe. For more information please contact Kelly Yakas on 0-21-998096

Holiday Projects

During the last week of the term we are going to be moving furniture from Rooms 1, 2, 5 and 6 possibly to the hall so that the planned classroom upgrades for these areas can begin. We will also be having new shade structures put over both playgrounds.

Kaikohe Christmas Parade

Our community Christmas Parade is to be held on Saturday 8th December. Many thanks to Mrs Croucher and Room 1 for taking up the challenge. The theme for this year’s float is Animal and Bird World! Mrs Croucher is planning to have a “Ice Aged Animal” float so if there are any whānau able and willing to come and help please come and see Mrs Croucher.

Parents in bus bay

Whānau are reminded not to drop their children off in the school bus bay on Purdy Street please. The bus bay is for buses only and drivers become very frustrated when they arrive and cars are in the area.

End of Year Survey

Thank you to the whānau who have already sent back their completed surveys but we need more responses please. We are sending the survey home again this week to whānau who have not yet returned their survey.

To date some of the responses about a uniform include:

  • Yes we should have a uniform because in the long run it will cost less to clothe my four children
  • Yes because we might be able to get help from WINZ
  • Yes so I don’t have to keep buying clothes, plain black bottoms and school shirt with collar
  • No because it can be a financial strain on whānau who have more than one child attending East School

Remember surveys must be in by this Friday, 30th November.

Written Reports

Written reports will be coming home for most children on Wednesday 5th December with the newsletter.

Following this teacher’s will be available for whānau to come and discuss any aspects of the report that may need clarification.  The dates for these meetings are Wednesday 12th December from 3-4.30pm. If this time is not convenient please contact your child’s teacher to make an alternative time. We have tried to make the report simple but in doing so have included all necessary and appropriate information without using too much teacher jargon we hope.

Please note that reports will not be written for children who only just enrolled this term however teachers would be more than willing to meet with whānau of these children.  Please call in and see your child’s teacher if your child/children just started this term and you would like an update or call the school office to make a time to meet a teacher. And finally while we make every effort to send reports home error free sometimes we overlook things. Come and see us also if this happens and we can remedy the report.
